I had the easiest antelope hunt ever this morning!
I took the day off yesterday to scout the new area that I'd never hunted before. The area is primarily private so I knew the hardest part would be convincing someone to give me permission.
I found a couple goats that were shooters. This one and a single horn with a giant 15" on one side and nothing on the other. I found the farmers via a plat book and went and talked to them. To my surprise, When they found out what I was hunting they were all for it!
I checked back in on them in the afternoon, they were still there. This goat had a smaller buck and doe with him. They were bedded 50 yards from this grain semi parked along the county road. I drove by them a couple of times and they never even flinched.
I called up a buddy and had him come join me for the opener today. He met me at a local restaurant for breakfast. I explained what was about to transpire. If the goats were still in the field. He was going drop me off behind the grain truck and keep driving. Sure enough at daylight, we found two of the goats about 75 feet from the semi truck. The buck I wanted was 300 yards out in the field. We went on with the plan and he dropped me off. As I stepped out of the truck with my gun, he kept driving. The other two bumped into the field to about 150 yards. The buck came down off his ridge to join them. I laid down right in the middle of a patch of sand burrs. Yeow!! I got my rifle set up on the bipod and got a solid rest. My 308 Barked!! (vicously under the aluminum grain trailer I might add) He ran about 40 yards and tipped over. I called my buddy to come get me. We loaded him in the back of the truck. At 6:52 am my hunt was over.
I still made it the two hours home to watch my daughter win a heated high school volleyball game. It was a good day!!
    Hope you enjoy.
