Well after more than a few years I was able to get my name to the top of the list.

I made a few scouting trips up to the unit and during the first trip didn't manage to even find an elk. The second trip allowed me to start finding a few animals but nothing close to what the unit is known for.

After 3 days of hunting and passing up quite a few bulls I managed to put the sneak on and dropped this guy.

I am tempted to try and tell the story of how wonderful it was to get the opportunity to hunt that unit, but my abilities to put the experience into words, wouldn't do justice to how much fun we experienced while up there.

The DWM from that area Jeff Gonzalez was a great source of information

Nice bull! I can only imagine how awesome the hunt was. How points to draw the tag?

I took 23 points to draw that hunt and it was worth every year of waiting. If there is anyone that has the necessary points and wants to hunt I would be happy to give all the guidance needed to make your hunt successful. I have caught myself numerous times trying to justify the big $$ for a landowner voucher to go back next year.

Just a little tease, the morning I shot this bull there were 47 branch antlered bulls in the valley. We sat and watched nature at work for 30-45 minutes, while just enjoying the activity. We saw breeding, sparring, bugling and bulls that were doing their best to imitate a cow pony while moving their cows. There was not much serious fighting going on, we assumed that the pecking order had already been established.

I decided to go with a Euro mount as my wonderful bride is not real fond of more dead heads on the wall. The rack will probably stay here in Denver for awhile but it may migrate to NE at some point and hell it might move seasonally.

If you are into such things, he has a 345" frame but with the broken 3rd he scores 328"
