The question was, what is the best ammo....not the cheapest, or did I read this wrong?

He did not specify is he was asking "best performing ammo" or "best ammo for the money"

If you want the best performing ammo, and have unlimited funds to spend on waterfowl loads, I would say Black Cloud is the best premium shot I have tried. I agree with Bubba, the Hypersonic is brutal, especially in a 3.5".

Best bang for the buck (pun intended) you can kill birds all day long with XPert at a reasonable range.

No matter if you are shooting cheap steel or shells full of diamonds... If you miss, the bird will not die. All of us miss some times. If your whiff costs you $1.25 that hurts. If your whiff costs you $0.30 that's not as bad.

Shoot cheap steel at decoying birds.

If Winchester made a shiny box with the duck commander on it for the xpert loads, they'd probably sell more....

I would have to say Bullbasin has given the best over all advice on this issue. It does really depend on your hunting style, and average distance you are shooting. But I have done this for a long time now and prefer close in shooting, so cheap # 2's for Goose and 4's for Duck with an IC or mod choke will get the job done just fine.
In the beginning which was 1990ish for me. I used BBB and T shot alot. Because that is what I was told worked, but over time Steel has become better and I my thoughts on what a good hunt is has changed.
What ever you decide works best for you. Learn to do it well, if you don't feel it is a good shot. It is ok if that bird gets away to see another day. cheers

If price is no issue, shoot the best which is HeviShot. #4 Hevi goose loads will work on ducks and geese up close or way out there.

I would agree that the most effective load out there is HeviShot. The Hevi-Metal works very well also, I use 3 inch Hevi-Metal #2 and it kills the birds really well.

I do like the fuller patterns with BlindSides. I need all the pellets on target I can get . I`m a pass shooter so the more pellets the merrier.

First, It's been a while - I hope all is good out there.

Open choke and #2 winchester supremes were my go to for many years.
Now we have a dog, taking kids out hunting and introducing new people to the sport. Still #2, but HeviMetal with modified or full choke to hold the clean up spot for me.

4 of us used Hevimetal in North Dakota - we took aggressive shots when needed to knock down the birds and the hevimetal really knocked them hard.
I'm also a huge Kicks choke fan. That's all I use anymore, even have complete sets for sporting clays. Doesn't mean anything special, I just like who they are and support them.
